Today, on the 11th day of April, Spring worked it’s way from the garden into the house.
There are dried leaves scattered from kitchen to living room and beyond because I’ve been cleaning up garden beds and the leaves have been accompanying me back into the house.
And for the first time in months it’s actually warmer outside than it is inside my house. It is 66 degrees outside and 61 degrees inside my house, up from the 57 degrees I had it turned down to overnight. If the forecast wasn’t so chilly for next week, I would turn off the furnace completely. Alas, there are some freezing overnight temps predicted so the furnace doesn’t get to take a break yet.
What is truly great about this spring is that I am not sitting in an office chained to a telephone and computer while spring breezes dance their way through 60 degree days. Now, I’m out there dancing in the breeze with my rake and it feels mighty good.
Even with these endless days of Spring set forth before me, I figure it will never be enough time to do everything I want to do while in the presence of Spring. Still, I feel less guilty when I take a break from the rake to read a chapter in the latest J.D. Robb crime puzzler. Spring will still be here tomorrow and so will I.
So happy Spring, people, especially to the gardeners among you. I’ve got dirt under my fingernails, leaves in the living room, and all is right with the world.
